Makha Bucha Day (Holiday)
Makha Bucha Day
2014 AD
This holiday takes its name from the Pali words Bucha, "to honor," and Makha, "the full moon of the third lunar month."
Twice, this day was important in the life of the Buddha: First at the beginning of his mission and then again 45 years later, shortly before his death.
Tradition holds that on this day, seven months after he began teaching he ordained over 1000 monks who had come to hear him preach.
